Google Street View Car Hits 3 Other Vehicles

It seems that Google better get a move on with its self-driven car. The Google Street View car has been involved in accident where it hit two public transport buses and a truck in the city of Bogor, Indonesia.

According to the police, the driver panicked after hitting a bus and tried to drive off. In so doing, the car then hit a second bus and then a truck, the local media reported.

There have been no confirmed injuries but Google have confirmed there was an incident.

“We take incidents like this very seriously. We’re working closely with local authorities to address the situation,” Vishnu Mahmud, head of communications for Google in Indonesia, told news agency AFP.

Google has been taking photos of this region for its mapping service since November 2012. Now, thanks to an eyewitness you can also view photos of the incident, as they have provided pictures of the accident to an Indonesian website.

Earlier this year Google was accused of running over a donkey in Botswana with one of the Street View cars but Google responded by saying, “Because of the way our 360-degree imagery is put together, it looked to some that our car had been involved in an unseemly hit-and-run, leaving the humble beast stranded in the road.”

“The donkey was lying in the path – perhaps enjoying a dust bath – before moving safely aside as our car drove past. I’m pleased to confirm the donkey is alive and well,” said Kei Kawai, Group Product Manager, Google Maps in a blog post.
