GoPro announces Hero3+ action camera

GoPro has become synonymous with snowboarding, skydiving, surfing and other extreme sports and the company has just announced the latest products in its Hero line-up.

The Californian company has today revealed the Hero3+ Black Edition and the Hero 3+ Silver Edition along with a selection of new mounts.

Rather than a full-on Hero4 unveiling, GoPro has slightly tweaked the specifications of the existingGoPro Hero 3 to make it even better for recording your thrills and spills.

The Black Edition comes with new housing that yields a 20 per cent smaller and lighter overall package and a 30 per cent longer battery life than the existing Hero3.

It also sports 4x faster Wi-Fi and two new modes: SuperView, for wide-angle shooting and Auto Low Light, which adjusts the frame rate for varying light conditions.

Although the Black Edition is the main draw, GoPro has also evolved the Silver Edition which is now twice as fast when it comes to image processing as the original Hero3 Silver Edition and boasts a 15 per cent smaller and lighter package.

Both cameras are still waterproof for up to 40m inside their housing and can be attached to a variety of head mounts and other accessories for on-the-fly filming.

“We saw that we could make the Hero3+ significantly smaller and lighter while at the same time increasing battery life thirty per cent. We saw the opportunity to design a sharper lens, so we did it – improving GoPro’s already highly regarded image quality," said Nicholas Woodman, founder and CEO of GoPro.

"We thought up exciting new features like SuperView, which enables the world’s most immersive wide-angle video. These are all features that we as passionate GoPro users want for ourselves, and we’re excited to share them with our customers around the world,” he said.

Both the Hero3+ Black Edition and Silver Edition are available now for £359.99 and £279.99 respectively.
