Starting today, things are about to get cleaner—and more colorful—in Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drawings, Forms and Apps Script. First, you’ll notice each editor’s product icon displayed in the header, which doubles as a quick link back to all your files in Drive. Next, you’ll see that the header is more streamlined and compact, helping you to focus on what matters most—your content.

We hope these updates make your creation and collaboration experience just a bit more delightful. Enjoy!

Instagram Vs PicsArt - The Photo Sharing App Battle Begins

All of us Smartphone users have tried several image filtering apps to add the cool factor to our images. There are several applications that provide such functionality and they can be easily downloaded via Google Play Store. However, the big names are those apps that have managed to integrate the image modification features with social media. I personally use only two such apps Instagram and PicsArt.
Thus, in today’s review I will be comparing the features of the two apps, their pros and cons and how they are different in their functions.
Instagram
People love simplicity and they have short attention span when it comes to apps, thus Instagram’s interface is much preferred here because users can view the most popular post, load their photos add effects, hash tag it and then upload it to Instagram- all in one page by clicking on the bottom tabs. When you first open Instagram you will see the latest posts from people in your network ie. people you are following.
Features of Instagram are very straightforward, you can take pictures, and then add effects to it via built in image filters of Instagram or other such apps, upload it to Instagram and share it on your social networks such as Facebook. Hashtagging is a popular feature which allows users to assign categories to their images such as #pets #houseparteh #wtf. You can also search hashtags.

Instagram is a great app to share what’s happening around you with your friends and everyone in the Instagram universe.

Unlike Instagram, PicsArt’s Home page dashboard shows options such as Effect, Collage, loading Photo, Drawing on the photo and more. The user interface of Pics Art is very smooth you can swipe left or right to go to different pages such as My Network, Interesting, Latest and Pics Arts Artists. In the “My Network page” you will see the images uploaded by people you’ve added to your network. In the “Interesting” section, you will see random images uploaded by PicsArt users. The “latest uploads” show the latest pictures from users and in the “Artist” page you will see artworks of professional artists who use Pics Arts.
In terms of functionality PicsArt is far above Instagram. It offers wider range of effects such as image filters, color corrections, color splash, collage and drawing on image. You can also download PicsArtGoo, Kaleidoscope and PicsArt for Kids which are add-on apps that can be downloaded from the Google store.
PicsArt also supports hashtagging and allows saving of images to your device.
Pros
Very smooth and attractive user interface
A lot of effects to add to your photos from filters, drawing to collage.
View professional images and save them for later.

Cons
Image uploading is slower than Instagram..
Ad supported.
Instagram has already established itself as the number one image sharing app . However, this doesn’t mean that PicsArt has lost. PicsArt is an amazing looking app and its user base is growing everyday. Though both Instagram and PicsArt are image sharing app, the latter seems more inclined towards sharing professional looking photos than everyday pictures of users. Maybe in the coming years PicsArt will become an exclusive platform for professional photo sharing.
Still, it is recommended that you use both of these apps as you can find great pictures to share with your friends or save for yourself.

HP Chromebook 14 Is The First Chromebook With Intel Haswell

Say hello to the new HP Chromebook 14: Hewlett Packard’s new laptop is the first of the Chromebook series with an Intel Haswell processor.The UK model will only have 3G, but there is a 4G version available in US markets. Selected deals in the US can get consumers up to 200MB of data per month for two years on a T-Mobile contract. On making enquiries to HP as to whether there will be a similar sort of deal with a 4G network here in Britain and the currently there isn’t.

The Chromebook 14 or Chromebook14, as HP themselves style it, has a 14-inch high-definition screen. Under the hood is a 16GB solid-state drive, with HDMI, USB 2.0 and USB 3.0 connectivity and a combined headphone and microphone jack. The Chromebook 14 comes in white, turquoise and coral peach, which in reality is actually just pink, bearing in mind I’m a guy and I don’t really “do” colour palettes!

The Chromebook series is based around Google’s Chrome operating system. Examples include the hugely high-resolution Chromebook Pixel the Samsung Series 5, or the bargain £200 Acer C7. They do not have software installed on them like a normal laptop, instead they need to be connected to the Web and rely on apps that connect to the Internet, including Google apps like Gmail, YouTube, and Google+ Hangouts. You also get 100 GB of free storage on Google Drive to keep files, documents and pictures for a two year period. The HP Chromebook 14 hits the UK shelves in November, starting at £250.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Is Region Locked!

Last week, everyone who heard about the news that Samsung’s new phones are region-locked made a lot of noise online – and quite understandably so! Do you remember those days of DVDs being region-locked? It’s not like we’re totally free of georetardation, but the mere idea of not being able to use a local SIM when you go abroad, and instead having to pay exorbitant roaming charges, is likely to give anyone a case of high blood pressure.

So as these things go, the news spread rapidly: If you buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, expect it to be region locked. Say hello to phone bills with roaming charges that will set you off.

Then, almost just as quickly, Samsung set the “rumors” straight.

Yes, the Samsung Galaxy Note 3 is region locked. Additionally, Samsung phones manufactured after July are also affected by this. That includes models such as the Galaxy S4, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy Note II and Galaxy S III.

That’s the “bad” news. The good news is that this region lock applies only to the first time the phone is activated.

Basically, the first time you turn your phone on, you have to activate it using a SIM card that is from the region where your phone was bought. After that, you can insert any SIM card from any country, and the phone will work.

This is clearly a case of partial truths getting out too fast, spreading too quickly, initiating some sort of panic. All’s well that ends well, I want to say, but I am not totally sure that it’s the end of the story, as there have been reports of Samsung phones not working with a foreign SIM card even after the initial activation.

I guess I can go Apple fangirl on you all and say just buy an iPhone, but I won’t do that. There are options anyway, such as using another phone for roaming. That, or having a Samsung partner unlock your new phone.

Groopic For iPhone Mashes Up Group Photos To Include The Missing Photographers

One of the more amazing things about our smartphones is that they don’t just put the capabilities of computers and cameras into small, portable form factors, they also leverage the combination of being both these things to give ordinary users the access to tools that previously required advanced photoshopping skills. Case in point: today, a new application called Groopic is launching that lets you take group pictures that also include the photographer snapping the photo.

Over the July 4th weekend at the beach, a gaggle of teenagers near me were snapping iPhone photos of each other standing in front of the waves. I overheard one lament, “I thought you wanted to take a photo with me!” I do, the other had replied, explaining that she also wanted a picture of the others together. The group then rearranged themselves into various configurations over and over so everyone got to be in a picture next to their friends.

Groopic could have solved their problem of wanting a group photo — well, so could have handing their phone over to one of the many beachgoers packed onto the crowded sand, I suppose. But maybe the teens didn’t want to bother anyone, or risk some stranger dropping their phone in the surf.

So instead, they just missed out on a real group photo.

Designed by a company called Eyedeus Labs, Groopic uses patent-pending technology developed by a team of five that includes nearly two PhD’s (one is just wrapping his up, explains CEO Ali Rehan). Combined, the team has over 25 years of experience in computer vision research.

The company is focused on creating a new genre of camera-based applications that use computer vision, Rehan tells us. “Using our computer vision technology, we aim to bridge the gap between vision research and industry and, in turn, reshape how people interact with smartphones and cameras,” he says.

Launching first on iPhone, Groopic is the company’s first product. The app is targeted at those aged 18 to 34 – the ones who take the most smartphone photos. Using the app is simple enough. In three steps, users take two photos with their iPhone, then mark the photographers in each one. Groopic then does its magic to automatically combine these incomplete pictures into one.

There are some limitations to the technology, of course. The app requires you stand or sit to the left or right of the group if you’re the one whose image is being swapped out. But, as the clever in-app tutorial teaches you, actually mashing up the two photos only takes a few taps. Snap the photos. Tap the photographers (no need to drag your finger around to outline them, just tap them.) And you’re done.

Rehan says the research team is also involved with prototyping other new technology, and currently has a number of proof of concepts built on PCs that are being ported to smartphones. “Right now, we have some really interesting ‘natural user interface’ gaming demos on cellphones,” he teases.

Eyedeus Labs is now working to bring Groopic to Android. But for now, Groopic is $1.99 in the iTunes App Store here.

It looks like adoption of iOS 7 is continuing to rocket. According to new data from Chitika, one week after its launch the new mobile OS is powering an impressive 52 percent of North American iDevices.

More precisely, 51.8 percent of North American Web traffic analyzed by Chitika on Wednesday, Sept. 25 was attributed to an iOS 7-powered iDevice (see above). As such, iOS 7 adoption is continuing to outperform that of iOS 6: last year, seven days into the availability of iOS 6, Chitika notes that a lesser 47.0 percent of iDevice users had upgraded to the new operating system.

Adoption of iOS 7 overtook that of Android’s latest Jelly Bean update in a matter of hours, and it wasn’t long before more iDevices were running iOS 7,rather than iOS 6. In a recent press release, Apple confirmed that more than 200 million iDevices are now running the seventh iteration of its iOS, making iOS 7 the fastest software upgrade in history.

In the same press release, the Cupertino, Calif. company announced that it sold more than 9 million iPhones over its iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c launch weekend, making the last week something of a record-breaking period for Apple.

After Apple Sells A Record Number Of New iPhones, Its Stock Soars

It looks like Wall Street is showing a little bit of love for Apple. Just hours after Cupertino announced impressive first weekend sales numbers for the new iPhones, its share price has jumped nearly 4 percent. Earlier in the day, the gain was closer to 6 percent.

Apple announced that the combined sales for the iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c had topped 9 million units between Friday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 22. This beat the previous record for first weekend sales of 5 million units recorded in 2012 with the iPhone 5. The company also announced that more than 200 million iOS devices are now running iOS 7.

One day won’t right the year-long slide for Apple stock. For 2013, Apple’s share price is still down 9 percent, and nearly 31 percent year over year.

Apple’s fiscal year ends on Sept. 29.

MLB Plans To Introduce Apple's iBeacon Indoor Mapping Technology In 2014

The 2013 postseason has yet to begin, but that hasn’t stopped Major League Baseball (MLB) from thinking ahead to next year. In 2014, some MLB stadiums will be equipped with Apple’s new iBeacon indoor mapping technology.

In doing so, attending games at stadiums will become “a completely interactive experience for fans,” according to Mashable.

The new technology will allow MLB to customize the At the Ballpark app for each user as they approach and enter a stadium. Features will include a unique ballpark guide and map, the ability to display a users’ ticket barcode as they enter the turnstile, and more.

As Marc Abramson, iOS developer for MLB notes:

Not everyone who comes to the games is a super fan, so this adds a new dimension to the experience.

Some MLB stadiums already use GPS with the At the Ballpark app. Others use Apple’s Passbook app for ticketing purposes. This will be the first time a professional sports league will use Bluetooth and iBeacon technologies in stadiums. MLB has been testing the new feature at Citi Field, home of the New York Mets.

Apple announced iBeacon last June at WWDC. It allows end users to map indoor locations such as stadiums, and malls.

MLB has yet to announce which teams will begin the 2014 season using iBeacon in their stadiums.

Apple's iOS7 Is Making People Sick

Apple’s latest and greatest operating system is making people sick – literally.

The animations and transitions added to iOS 7 have unexpectedly been making people nauseous and giving them motion sickness.

The issue is so prevalent, in fact, that it has an entire message thread filled with complaints on Apple’s forums, first spotted by The Verge, and complaints have been building on Twitter as well.

‘The zoom animations everywhere on the new iOS 7 are literally making me nauseous and giving me a headache,’ wrote forum user Ensorceled. ‘It's exactly how I used to get car sick if I tried to read in the car.’

Actress Eliza Dushku took to Twitter to voice her discontent.

‘Ok now the new #iOS7 is making me motion-sick,’ Ms Dushku tweeted.

The main source of the problem appears to be the zooming animation added in the recent upgrade.

‘Yes, APPLE! Please allow disabling of all this ZOOMING!’ User gillywonk posted to the forum.

Some users have even complained they wanted to downgrade back to iOS 6, despite the large list of new features added in iOS 7.

‘I have the same problem. It hurts my eyes and makes me dizzy,’ Ldejeant posted to the forum. ‘So annoying that we can't downgrade!!!! Really unhappy with Apple on this one :-(‘

Apple released an update to iOS 7 Friday, but that addressed a separate issue where users could get past the phone’s lock screen without entering a password or other security information.

‘Add me to the nauseous and headache list,’ KelDC wrote in the forum. ‘Apple please give users the option to not have to look at it!’

MailOnline was not immediately able to reach Apple for comment.

Android 4.3 for HTC One now available for everyone

As previously promised here, the new Android Revolution HD based on Android 4.3 and HTC Sense 5.0 is ready for everyone to download.

HTC hasn't released yet the international (WWE) update for HTC One, so users with international version of HTC One (M7_UL) are still waiting for Android 4.3 to come. As a workaround, Android Revolution HD is based on recently released Android 4.3 OTA for HTC One "Developer Edition". By checking byte to byte it's quite easy to notice that the software from international edition (401) and developer edition (1540) are almost the same. So instead of waiting for WWE OTA, Android Revolution HD 22.0 has been "WWE-ed", which means it works identically to WWE software. All WWE languages are included.

So, if you don't want to wait for WWE OTA update for your HTC One, please visit this thread and get the latest Android Revolution HD 22.0 with Android 4.3 and HTC Sense 5.0.

Carbon Nanotube Computer Technology Breakthrough

Researchers at the Stanford University announced on Wednesday that they have created the first-ever working carbon nanotube computer.

They published their discovery in this week’s edition of Nature. The researchers, led by professors Subhasish and H.S Philip Wong call it “CEDRIC”, which they say loosely stands for carbon nanotube digital integrated circuit.

The reason for the excitement over this advancement comes as current silicon transistor computing is soon reaching its limit as the transistors can not get much smaller due to quantum effects. The new carbon nanotube transistors are the way forward because they can conduct electricity better than silicon and on a smaller scale.

Put into practical terms, carbon nanotube-based computers will be faster and more energy-efficient, which is always a challenge for manufacturers every time there is a new generation of processor.

The future is not problem free however. This technology is still new but the Stanford researchers have been able to solve some of the problems surrounding error connection. The system they have developed can switch off defective carbon nanotubes and come up with an algorithm which addresses misaligned carbon nanotubes that can short-circuit the system.

“People have been talking about a new era of carbon nanotube electronics moving beyond silicon,”Mitra said in a statement. “But there have been few demonstrations of complete digital systems using this exciting technology. Here is the proof.”

Although this is a key breakthrough for the technology, CEDRIC is still not able to carry out complex computations like a normal PC but the future looks promising. No doubt carbon-nanotube computers will be what our children use in the coming years.

Apple's Latest Release,New IMac With Iris Pro

Following the release of the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C, Apple has given its iMac a small revamp. The new release brings Haswell cores from Intel, new NVIDIA Corp. GPUs, improved Fusion drives and more ports.

Last October Apple made major changes to the iMac line, which included a new 5-mm thick aluminum frame. This time round the changes are more subtle but nonetheless contribute to making Apple’s all-in-one (AIO) personal computer a serious contender in the bid for the best value in the market.

Currently Lenovo dominate the AIO PC market after over-taking Apple. So what does the new iMac have to offer? Well the revamped model comes with 8 GB (upgradable two 32 GB for 27-inch, 16 GB for 21.5-inch) of 1600 MHz DDR3 and a 1 terabyte “Fusion” drive, a mostly hard disk hybrid drive with an undisclosed amount of NAND flash onboard (upgradable to 3 TB traditional HDD, a 256 GB SSD, or a 512 GB SSD).

Apple’s AIO PC comes with a wireless “Magic Mouse” and wireless keyboard. It also has 802.11ac Wi-Fi and the following ports:

SDXC card slot
Four USB 3 ports (compatible with USB 2)
Two Thunderbolt ports
Mini DisplayPort output with support for DVI, VGA and dual-link DVI (adapters sold separately)
10/100/1000BASE-T Gigabit Ethernet (RJ-45 connector)
Kensington lock slot

The 21.5-inch model of the iMac, which costs $1,299 comes with the on-die Iris Pro GPU inside the Intel Haswell 2.7 GHz quad-core Core i5- 4570R processor.

Apple claims that it has been able to significantly improve the hardware and firmware of its proprietary Fusion drives, thus making performance 50 percent faster than the previous generation.

Compared to the competition, Apple has priced the new iMacs rather aggressively. Even those who want a Windows 8 AIO can now consider a new iMac via Boot Camp, which supports Windows 8.
