Presentations and slideshows are widely used in multiple fields, be it academics, professional life or social events. You use them for stage presentations, year-end university projects, business meetings and even sharing your photos, to name a few use case scenarios. If you simply want to view your favorite photos with your family, complete with fascinating slideshow effects, Special Image Player might be just what you’re looking for. We have previously covered quite a few slideshow makers for Windows including Slideshow Creator, DVD Slideshow and ezvid, just to name a few, but Special Image Player’s over 172 transition effects clearly make it stand out from the lot. Details to follow after the jump.
Note: During the installation, the setup process tries to download and install unwanted software on your system. If you don’t want to install it along with the main app, simply select the Decline option before continuing.
The application features an easily understandable interface. Accompanying the main preview area of the slideshow, you will find Transition, Layout and Images tabs on the left. The preview keeps playing the slideshow effect on its own, meaning you won’t find any play or pause buttons in there. Any change you make to the settings and options is automatically applied.
The first step is to select your image folder under the Image tab, which also lets you control the time interval between each slide. The obvious mainstay of the app is its bevy of transition effects, all of which can be accessed under the Style drop-down menu. The huge list of styles will take a few minutes to go through, though most of them are just slightly altered versions of original transitions such as unroll from top or bottom. The application lets you to automatically cycle through the available effects either sequentially or randomly. Or, you may even disable this option altogether if you wish. ‘Progress Control’ allows you to change the transition speed by specifying time interval in milliseconds and steps. This feature also has a manual option that lets you change speed using a slider.
The Layout tab simply lets you change image orientation according to your liking. You can change image placement (center, stretch / shrink, preserve aspect ratio) and background, and specify frame width and color.
When everything is set according to your preferences, just double-click the preview area to launch the slideshow in full-screen.
Boasting a simple design and a plethora of transition effects, Special Image Player is definitely worth giving a try. The app works on Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8.
