Samsung Galaxy S4 getting a Google Edition with pure Android

Google would soon sell a custom version of Samsung Galaxy S4 through the Play Store in the US market.

This edition would feature the stock version of Android. Google would be responsible for updates. It is the same awesome hardware with officially supported stock Android!

The problem is that the phone is not getting a subsidized pricing. It would sell for USD 650 which is like USD 300 more than Google Nexus 4 16GB edition.

It is clear that Samsung did not want this special edition phone to hurt the sales of their regular model in the US market.

In any case, it is good to have a choice. If you want a budget Nexus device, you get the Nexus 4. If you do not mind spending a bit more for more modern hardware and a better display, you can now get the Google’s edition of Galaxy S4 in the coming weeks.

There is another point of looking at this launch. Google was expected to showcase the much talked about xPhone from Motorola. Looks like the device is still not ready forpublic display. And Google decided to give Motorola some more time by launching Galaxy S4 Google Edition to meet the need of the fans who prefer stock Android and official support from them.

Google also did not announce the much expected Android update. Android 4.3 was very much expected to arrive at Google I/O 2013. It did not happen. Maybe Google is planning to hold another event few weeks from now once the Motorola hardware is ready for primetime and then we could see the next Android update as well?
